I’m glad you reposted this. I think we all need to know more about the natural world around us. This is part of Indigenous Wisdom, and it has been lost. Have you read Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer? I’m going to keep this in mind and hopefully educate myself more as I step into another gardening season.

Humans are just weird. I say this speaking as a human, I swear. Though humans often use the term "natural" with it's many meanings, they seem to prefer everything in polygons with edges to define where one thing ends and another begins. This behavior approaches the level of instinct. Does any other animal prefer a cut-up-container-world like this? Bees in hives maybe... Hmm. And human behavior is increasingly bee-like I've noticed. If you disturb one side of the hive the whole thing goes buzzz... I stray from my main point: humans are just weird. They organize their yards and gardens in boxes. Few appreciate the fluid harmony of unboxed nature and, well, maybe hunter-gatherers are the only exception. I'm only guessing. I don't know any hunter-gatherers personally though I'd like to meet some. But maybe they're here and I just refuse to acknowledge them… you think?
