The light is returning, and the barn is the best place to enjoy it.

Between rains the river turns the color of serpentine.

More often it is an unattractive brown due to the rain. The first week of January the ravine flooded.

On January third temperatures reached the 60’s and a box turtle was spotted by the ponds. This is very dangerous for turtles and we are hoping the gradually cooling off over several days persuaded it to seek a safe place to wait out winter.

Even this time of year there are some beautiful greens. A lone Virginia pine glows in the afternoon sun. The dreaded bamboo provides a lovely place to rest the eyes. Moss appears to glow on a Savanna path.

Temperatures have been alarmingly warm since the bomb cyclone of Christmas weekend. Finally a few days below freezing allow us to enjoy the Stanley stove.

These photos bring my blood pressure down. Everything looks so peaceful. Love the stove. I am wondering why coming out from the water is dangerous for the little turtle... Maybe because he's supposed to be hibernating down in the bottom of the pond? I am beginning to think Turtle Paradise isn't such a turtle paradise! We have a lush and very fertile backyard visited by squirrels and scrub jays. This is a city so some of the squirrels smoke crack and the scrub jays listen to loud rap music. Our little oasis is about 25 x 25 feet large. It would be nice to live in the country and I respect what appears to be your very "old-school" sort of lifestyle. I'm a fan of the old British TV series, Victorian Farm, and its sequel, Edwardian Farm. Have you seen them? If not, I bet you would really enjoy.

Beautiful photos, and that stove is a keeper. What’s the story behind it?
